To further define the genes and gene products responsible for the in vivo conversion of phosphatidylglycerophosphate to phosphatidylglycerol in Escherichia coli, we disrupted two genes (pgpA and pgpB) which had previously been shown to encode gene products which carried out this reaction in vitro (T.
