BACKGROUND AND AIM: Hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) is the rate-limiting enzyme in triglyceride intracellular lipolysis, generating free fatty acids for energy utilisation. HSL is also expressed in pancreatic beta-cells where its activity may affect insulin secretion.
