Sir, CTX-M-type β-lactamases are similar to other extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) in that they hydrolyse broad-spectrum cephalosporins and aztreonam. The CTX-M-type β-lactamases differ, however, from other ESBLs in acting primarily as cefotaximases.
