OBJECTIVE: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign tumour in ageing men. While the etiopathology remains unsolved, a disruption in the endocrine/autocrine-paracrine prostatic homeostasis, involving steroid hormones, contributes to the pathogenesis of BPH.
