AIMS: To facilitate the horizontal transfer and selection of phage-resistance plasmids in industrial lactococci. METHODS AND RESULTS: Cadmium-resistance properties similar to those previously identified in Lactococcus were linked to the well-known phage-resistance plasmid pNP40.
