OBJECTIVE: The Leiden V mutation, which causes activated protein C resistance and thrombophilia, has been found to be a risk factor for venous thrombosis. The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) D allele indirectly exerts an unfavourable effect on the vasoregulatory system.
