Zinc fingers--the next antiviral target?

Abstract excerpt

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), chains of amino acids, called zinc fingers, found in cellular proteins which bind to DNA or messenger RNA, may be the next target for antiviral drugs. HIV that lacks zinc fingers is unable to infect new cells and may not be able to mutate, thus affecting the viral life cycle. Research progress on targeting zinc fingers in HIV are highlighted.
