The gene for the neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor alpha4 subunit (CHRNA4) was identified as a gene underlying a rare idiopathic partial epilepsy syndrome in humans, autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (ADNFLE).
