During our search for a cDNA encoding beta-galactosidase II, a beta-galactosidase/exogalactanase (EC 3.2.1.23) present during tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) fruit ripening, a family of seven tomato beta-galactosidase (TBG) cDNAs was identified.
