How weight loss improves lipid levels is poorly understood. Cross-sectional studies have suggested that accumulation of fat in intra-abdominal stores (IAF) may lead to abnormal lipid levels, increased hepatic lipase (HL) activity, and smaller low density lipoprotein (LDL) particle size.
