Abstract excerpt
Maternal exposures may induce chromosome damage and birth defects in the fetus. Polymorphic variation in genes coding for enzymes involved in metabolic activation and detoxification of environmental procarcinogens may account for some of the differences in chromosome aberration frequencies in newborns.
