Abstract excerpt
Hereditary haemochromatosis (HH) is an autosomal recessive disease involving mutations in the recently characterised HFE gene linked to HLA-A in the major histocompatibility complex. The known HFE polymorphisms include the wild-type allele, a G-->A substitution at base 845 (845A) and a C-->G substitution at position 187 (187G).
