PURPOSE: The recent linkage between a genetically transmissible form of epilepsy (ADNFLE) and mutations within the alpha4 subunit, one component of the major brain neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), raises the question of the role of this receptor in epileptogenesis.
