<p>Psychiatric semiology has not changed much over the years despite its muddled existence. There is a distinct opportunity here emerging from the rise of conversational AI agents. I argue that, in contrast to the general expectations placed on these chatbots, to be useful as semiotic tools in psychiatry, they need to be less human-like.</p>
