Bacterial leaf spot (BLS) is a disease that affects lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) worldwide. The disease is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris pathovar vitians (Xcv), which exclusively infects lettuce and is particularly devastating in warm humid climates.
