Since 2008, severe disease epidemics with symptoms resembling gummy stem blight have occurred on gherkin cucumbers (Cucumis sativus) in Karnataka, India. Three morphologically identical, but genetically distinct, Stagonosporopsis species, namely: Stagonosporopsis cucurbitacearum (syn.
