The recurrent emergence of virus diseases in intensive horticultural crops requires alternative control strategies. Topical application of dsRNA molecules homologous to pathogens has been proposed as a tool for plant virus control. These dsRNAs induce the silencing mechanism (RNAi) that degrades homologous dsRNAs.
