The bisexual heterothallic ascomycete Gibberella pulicaris (anamorph = Fusarium sambucinum) is an important trichothecene-producing plant pathogen that has been used to study the genetics of trichothecene synthesis and pathogenicity by analysis of naturally occurring variants.
