Phaeosphaeria avenaria f.sp. avenaria (Paa), the causal agent of stagonospora leaf blotch in oats, produces a glycosyl hydrolase family 3 enzyme, β-glucosidase, which is responsible for detoxification of steroidal avenacosides in oat leaves, but is not essential for pathogenicity.
