Papaya apical curl necrosis (PACN) has frequently been observed in several Brazilian states. Affected plants exhibit foliar chlorosis, curvature of the apex, shortening of the internodes leading to bunching of the crown leaves, necrosis of the young apical parts, leaf drop, and dieback.
