In March 2017, a rust disease was first identified on the endemic Myrtaceae tree Kermadec pōhutukawa (Metrosideros kermadecensis W.R.B. Oliv.) on Raoul Island, a remote island located about 1,000 km northeast from New Zealand’s North Island.
