Soil solarization, carried out in raised concrete benches in two subsequent years, proved very effective against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. basilici and Rhizoctonia solani on basil. The temperatures reached in mulched benches at 5 and 15 cm depth were respectively 48 and 45 degrees C.
