Crinipellis perniciosa(Stahel) Singer is the causal agent of witches broom disease in the Sterculiaceae, Solanaceae and Bixaceae families. The disease is endemic to the Brazilian Amazon and was first reported infecting Theobroma cacao (cocoa) in the State of Bahia, Brazil, in 1989.
