Banana bunchy top disease (BBTD) is the most devastating viral disease of bananas worldwide and is caused by the banana bunchy top virus (BBTV). The disease is spread by the banana aphid Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel (Hemiptera: Aphididae ) and through infected propagation material.
