The microvariant genotype of Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1 μVar) has severely disrupted oyster production in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia by causing repeated and seasonal outbreaks of mass mortality in Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas).
