Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae, the causal bacterium of kiwifruit canker, induces the formation of chlorotic halo lesions on infected leaves and inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli. The inhibition of E. coli growth was shown to be reversed by L-arginine or L-citrulline, but not by L-glutamine, suggesting that the pathogen produces a toxin similar to phaseolotoxin, which inhibits ornithine carbamoyltransfe...
