Plum pox virus (PPV), a member of the genus Potyvirus, family Potyviridae, is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus. RNA viruses tend to be genetically diverse because the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase responsible for virus replication lacks proofreading capacity.
