Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is a bacterial disease of marine shrimp that has caused severe economic losses to aquaculture producers in affected areas. AHPND was originally found to be caused by virulent strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VpAHPND).
