General anesthesia (GA) in children is associated with respiratory events and a potential for drug-induced neurotoxicity. Aiming to reduce airway manipulation and the use of GA drugs, we designed a study of abdominal surgery under epidural anesthesia in sedated, spontaneously breathing children.
