Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), or sleeping sickness, is currently targeted for elimination. The etiologic agent of HAT is a trypanosome belonging to the species Trypanosoma brucei ( Tb ) s.l., a unicellular parasite transmitted by tsetse flies.
