<title>Abstract</title> <p>Fusarium wilt of banana, caused by <italic>Fusarium oxysporum</italic> f. sp. <italic>cubense</italic> (<italic>Foc</italic>), is one of the most damaging plant diseases recorded. <italic>Foc</italic> race 1 (R1) decimated the Gros Michel–based banana trade.
