Gitelman syndrome is an inherited tubulopathy leading to a hypokalaemic metabolic alkalosis with hypomagnesaemia and hypocalciuria. Most cases are due to mutations in SLC12A3 , encoding the apical thiazide sensitive co-transporter in the distal convoluted tubule.
