Maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV) and Bermuda grass southern mosaic virus (BgSMV) are economically important potyviruses of cereals. BgSMV is very similar in genomic sequence to MDMV, but cannot infect Johnsongrass and is not transmitted by Rhopalosiphum maidis .
