Phytoplasmas are associated with several plant diseases occurring in Brazil. A phytoplasma of group 16SrIII found in tomato plants with symptoms of big bud was identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of 16S rDNA.
