Gousiekte ("quick disease") is a fatal plant toxicosis affecting livestock in South Africa. Gousiekte is characterized by the sudden death of animals following the ingestion of leaves of several species of Rubiaceae, most notably Vangueria pygmaea , Pavetta harborii , P. schumanniana and Fadogia homblei .
