The role of hemocyanin in terms of immune defense was explored in Cherax quadricarinatus infected by WSSV. The cDNA of a hemocyanin gene (CqHC) was cloned from the hepatopancreas of C. quadricarinatus (crayfish) by the Rapid Amplification Complementary DNA Ends (RACE) method.
