Kandelia obovata Sheue, Liu & Yong (Sheue et al. 2003), a viviparous mangrove species, mainly grows in coastal areas of the East and South China Sea regions. Like many other mangrove species, K. obovata has economic and ecological value, and it contributes to the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem (Ewel et al. 1998).
