Inducing labor is a worthwhile measure when the benefits of timely delivery outweigh the risks of of continued pregnancy. The risk of stillbirth rises with prolonged gestation. In addition, modern neonatal care permits pregnancies to be ended earlier without compromising the perinatal outcome.
