Candidatus Branchiomonas cysticola is the primary etiological agent of epitheliocystis and the most prevalent bacterium associated with gill disease (GD) in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in Norway.
