Giardia lamblia (also Giardia duodenalis, Giardia intestinalis) isolates have been variably divided into two or three genotypes by different investigators. We have compared the triose phosphate isomerase sequences of the three genotypes (Groups 1, 2, and 3) described by Nash and shown that Groups 1 and 2 are similar, while Group 3 is markedly different from Groups 1 and 2, indicating that Group 1/2 and Group 3...
