Polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) phagocytic function has been shown to be impaired in some patients with periodontitis. PMN constitutively express members of two immunoglobulin G receptor (Fc gammaR) classes: Fc gammaRIIa (CD32) and Fc gammaRIIIb (CD16).
