Cruzipain, the major cysteine proteinase of Trypanosoma cruzi has been proposed as a target for chemotherapy against Chagas' disease. To investigate the role of cruzipain we transfected T. cruzi epimastigotes with a recombinant cosmid containing approximately 20 tandemly repeated cruzipain genes.
