Known DNA sequences coding for the 16S rRNAs of 14 slowly growing Mycobacterium species were analyzed. Three sets of primers were synthesized: MAV and MIN, for M. avium and M. intracellulare, respectively, and MYCOB, for the slowly growing mycobacteria.
