A chondrocyte-collagen composite was prepared in an attempt to regenerate cartilage by its subcutaneous implantation in nude mouse. When the composite was impregnated with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) prior to implantation, regeneration of the cartilage tissue was remarkably accelerated.
