In the postnatal testis, the c-kit transmembrane tyrosine-kinase receptor is expressed in type A spermatogonia, and its transcription ceases at the meiotic phase of spermatogenesis. Alternative, shorter c-kit transcripts are expressed in post-meiotic germ cells.
