The molecular basis of null alleles was investigated by cDNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in seven Tay-Sachs patients. Although mRNAs were undetectable by Northern blot, cDNA-PCR amplification allowed us to get a sufficient amount of cDNA to characterize abnormal transcripts.
