Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus is a member of the flavivirus genus and the family Flaviviridae. Like other flaviviruses such as yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis or the dengue viruses, it is an important human pathogen, endemic in many European countries, Russia and China.
