The HLA-B49 DR4 haplotype, which is rare in Caucasoid populations, has a frequency in Sardinia of approximately 6% and a very strong linkage disequilibrium (LD). To better understand its genetic structure, the Bf, C4A and C4B Class III alleles were studied in 56 healthy unrelated Sardinian subjects of B49 DR4 phenotype and in 24 of their families.
