We have investigated the inheritance of chromosome-length polymorphisms in the basidiomycete Coprinus cinereus. The electrophoretic karyotypes of interfertile strains of C. cinereus are strikingly different, and crosses between strains with different karyotypes yield progeny with chromosomes of new sizes.
