Cytokinins have profound effects on seedling development in Arabidopsis thaliana. Benzyladenine (BA) inhibits root elongation in light- or dark-grown seedlings, and in dark-grown seedlings BA inhibits hypocotyl elongation and exaggerates the curvature of apical hooks.
